Developing and maintaining a Bot consists of a four-stage cycle. VHost AIMC provides a uniform interface and consistent workflow management for all aspects of Bot creation, publishing and ongoing maintenance.
-
Authoring: AIML files, an extension of XML, are the brain of the Bot - giving it logic and knowledge. The full-featured online AIML file explorer simplifies maintenance of AIML files. Files uploaded or created online are supported within the VHost AIMC. Uploaded AIML files pass a pre-compile syntax check and are rejected if an XML parsing error is found. AIML files can also be edited online, in which case pre-compile syntax checking takes place before saving. If an error is found, the user is warned and the file reverts to editing mode without saving. AIML files can be downloaded to a local PC via the AIMC for offline editing/backup.
-
Compiling: Once the AIML files are in place they need to be compiled into the Bot's database. Compilation may take up to 30 minutes, depending on the amount and size of the AIML files, during which time the Bot would normally be unavailable for use. VHost AIMC compiles the AIML files to a staging database, resulting in zero downtime for the live Bot.
-
Testing: Compiled AIML should be carefully reviewed before publishing to the live server to ensure successful deployment. VHost AIMC provides a textual chat interface for both staging and live Bots. External URLs are available for QA by non-administrators.
-
Deployment: After testing, VHost AIMC allows the Bot administrator to deploy the staging Bot to the live Bot at a click of a button and with less than a minute of live downtime. This is accomplished by transferring data from the staging Bot database into the live Bot database, without the need for recompilation.
Complete transcript logs are continuously available to the Bot administrator online. The logs are provided as a comma-separated file and include the following fields for each interaction with the Bot: time, input, response, and session ID.
-
Summary: The VHost AIMC provides an easy to use interface that is accessible via any browser. AIML authors can update and maintain their AIML files without inner knowledge of the AI engine or technologies. It provides minimal downtime during compilation, and publishes live with one click. Test chats are available for both staging and live databases, enabling QA without duplicate or third party interfaces. Informative log files for post-launch analysis are available on demand, in a format easily read by data-mining tools.
